Write a ReviewAlleged Unauthorised Charges
I had an extremely negative experience with GetFrugal and believe the company is a scam. £59.98 was taken from my account after I believe the company gained access to my account deceptively. I am pursuing the matter as fraud and would strongly advise others to avoid the company. If you have experienced something similar, I recommend contacting your bank or a fraud service.
Concern About Unexpected Charges
I honestly question how this company can continue operating after seeing so many similar complaints. I was recently affected myself, and I am concerned that money is being taken from vulnerable people who are seeking financial assistance. I strongly criticise the way this company operates and would advise others to be very careful.
Unexpected Transaction and Fraud Alert
I had never heard of GetFrugal before, but I noticed an attempted £29.84 transaction from the company. I received messages that appeared to relate to HSBC fraud protection, but I later discovered that the messages were not actually from HSBC. As a precaution, I cancelled my card. The incident caused me significant stress during an already difficult period, so I wanted to share my experience and warn others.
Unexpected Payment Attempt
A friend of mine had recently received £100 into their current account after selling some items. Around 48 hours later, an attempted £29.84 payment from Frugal was made from the account, which Santander reportedly stopped. New cards were subsequently being issued, and my friend had never applied for a loan. I have questions about how this payment attempt may have been connected and would advise people to be cautious.
Unexpected Subscription Payments
I was exploring loan options when a small initial payment was taken from me, followed by two further £29.99 payments without what I considered adequate notice or warning. I strongly disagree with this practice and believe consumers looking for payday loans should be particularly careful when dealing with this company.
Payment Taken After Cancellation
I did not knowingly subscribe to the service, and a payment was taken after I had cancelled shortly after signing up. I believe the payment was unauthorised and I am requesting a refund. I was also unclear about the nature of the service and strongly object to the way the payment was taken.
Concern Over How Credit Was Presented
I was looking for credit and received what appeared to be an approval for a £359.88 facility with £29.99 monthly payments over 12 months at 0% interest. The presentation led me to believe I had been approved for actual credit, but I later discovered that GetFrugal describes itself as a non-lending service. I want to make clear that I did not ultimately lose £359.88, and I am not alleging that this amount was stolen. My complaint is about how the service and supposed credit offer were presented, including the identity-verification and payment stages. I have retained screenshots and submitted a formal complaint requesting clarification about the credit offer, lender, subscription, payment process and nature of the service. If I do not receive a satisfactory response, I may escalate my concerns to the relevant regulatory and dispute-resolution bodies.
Unexpected Subscription Instead of Credit
I was searching for a small loan and came across GetFrugal through a comparison service because of its advertised 0% interest. The service appeared to offer the amount I requested over 12 months and asked me to verify my identity using my bank details, with a 15p administration charge. After receiving no follow-up communication, I checked my account and discovered that I had apparently been enrolled in a recurring subscription of around £29 instead of receiving credit. The service instead provided me with a list of lenders. I cancelled the subscription and then contacted my bank for assistance. I found the experience misleading and would advise others to avoid the service.
Strong Warning Against Using the Service
I had a very negative experience with the company and would strongly warn other consumers not to use this service.
Responsive Customer Support
I contacted customer support with questions about how my savings were calculated, and the team responded within a few hours. I was impressed by how quickly they got back to me, particularly compared with my experience with other fintech companies. This level of responsiveness helped build my trust in the company.
