Problems with newly installed French doors

I originally gave this company five stars and wrote a positive review because I was happy with the work. My doors and windows were installed on 07/09/2026, but I quickly discovered an issue with the French doors. Although the mechanism appears to work while the door is open, once the door is closed, the key will not turn in either direction. I contacted the company and was told that someone would visit on 21 September. This means I have been left with brand-new doors that I cannot properly secure, which is particularly worrying as I live alone and my property backs onto Ferndown Common on an unmade road with no street lighting. I was initially very pleased with the installation, but this unresolved security issue has significantly affected my overall experience and changed my original opinion of the service.

Friendly team and excellent quality

Mike and Ray have fitted all of my windows, including the most recent one at the top of my stairway. They are both very friendly while remaining highly professional in their work. They carefully protect the areas they walk through and work in, and always leave everything clean and tidy. I am also very pleased with the quality of the windows. The office follows up after installation, and everyone I have dealt with has been friendly and helpful. Overall, I have been very happy with the service.

Excellent conservatory roof installation

The two installers, Ty and Kyle, were excellent throughout the job. They were helpful, understanding and did a fantastic job installing our new conservatory roof. They also made sure everything was cleared away and left clean and tidy once the work was finished.

Owen handled a difficult situation well

Owen, the fitter, was fantastic and dealt with what could have been a challenging situation extremely well. He handled everything professionally and made the process much easier.

Dodgy salesman - Disappointing sales experience

I had new windows and doors installed about a year ago, and I have to say the products themselves have performed really well. They have held up nicely and do a great job of keeping the heat in. However, my experience with the sales process was very different. I was originally cold-called and decided to arrange an appointment. The salesperson arrived and spent around 20 minutes sitting in his car with someone before coming inside, which I found unusual. He showed me a sample window and measured the windows and doors before leaving and returning with a quote of £19,000. After refusing several offers, the price eventually came down to £8,000. I was told this was a special deal and that various conditions, such as displaying a sale sign or allowing photographs of the installation, could reduce the price. I felt the pricing approach was unnecessarily complicated and would have preferred to simply be given the correct price from the beginning. The installation itself was completed in one day and the installers seemed fine. However, they did not put the blinds back, left the doorbell wires exposed, and the rear door does not open fully because the hinges catch against the wall. When I later received a call asking about the windows, I raised these concerns and felt the call ended abruptly after I became critical. The windows themselves have been good, but the overall sales and aftercare experience has left me disappointed.

Fast and professional window installation

The installation was originally expected to take around a day and a half, but with two teams arriving, all the windows were completed in just half a day. The fitters were polite, professional and made sure everything was cleaned up afterwards. Other than the new windows, you would hardly have known anyone had been working in the house.

Excellent service from start to finish

I’m very pleased with the service. Lee did a fantastic job installing the door on his own. His work was clean and tidy, and he was also a very pleasant person to deal with. Many thanks for doing such a great job.

Honest review

We used First Home Improvements for new front and back doors and have been really pleased with the experience. Everything was explained clearly from the initial order through to the installation. Chris Cade fitted the doors and did a fantastic job. He was professional, efficient and made sure everything was cleaned up afterwards. The finished work is to a really high standard and we're very happy with it. I would definitely recommend the company based on our experience.

The worst company going the quote…

Really disappointed with the whole sales experience. The original quote was around £34k, then it was reduced to £17k, and apparently could come down to £13k if I paid a deposit there and then. It felt like a lot of pressure to make a decision immediately rather than giving me time to think it over.

Great quality windows

Really pleased with the quality of the new windows and the installation. Rob Crick and Oliver Mills did a great job and were very professional throughout. They also handled my two dogs brilliantly, including my rather grumpy little one! Before leaving, Rob went through all the paperwork with me and explained how to use the windows and doors, including the safety features and different opening options. Very happy with both the products and the installation.

Hard sell tactics.

I've used First Home Improvements three times for work on my house, with the latest being replacement windows. I want to make it clear that I have no complaints about the actual products or the installers. The problem was the sales approach afterwards. I was told someone would visit to inspect and photograph the work and leave me a voucher for a possible future discount. During the visit, the representative started looking closely at my doors and pointing out various problems before asking what sort of replacement door I wanted. I explained that I wasn't looking to replace the doors and hadn't asked for a quote. The conversation then became increasingly uncomfortable, with someone from the office getting involved over the phone. It ended badly and I eventually asked the representative to leave. I've been happy enough with the products and installers, but after this experience I wouldn't want another sales visit at my home.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

A representative came to give me a quote and ended up staying for nearly three hours. The initial quote was over £14,000, but there were repeated calls to his boss about reducing the price until it was eventually around half of the original amount. I felt very uncomfortable with the whole situation and felt under a lot of pressure to make a decision. Even after I made it clear that I wanted the visit to end, he continued to stay. In the end, I had to get my dad to come over before the situation was finally brought to an end. The entire experience left me very unhappy.

Door fitting took a bit longer than…

The door installation took longer than I expected, and unfortunately the door that was fitted wasn't the one I had originally selected. I also found the fitter a little rude when I asked him to take care around the house and avoid making a mess on the floors. Overall, the experience could have been handled much better.

Really didn’t like the sales pitch at…

I wasn't comfortable with the sales visit taking around two hours at 5pm. I felt there wasn't enough opportunity to go away and think about the decision for a couple of days, as everything seemed very rushed and there was a strong push to place the order. We were given an installation date, but unfortunately nobody turned up and we then had to wait another four days. When the fitters eventually arrived, they were good, friendly and efficient. The windows and doors look good now that everything is installed, so the actual installation team were a positive part of the experience.

Windows and back door

The fitters themselves were very polite and friendly, and I'm pleased with the windows. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the back door because it was made the wrong way. A second door was sent out, but we didn't realise there was still an issue until after the fitter had left. The window section only opens on tilt rather than opening fully, and it also doesn't lock properly. After everything that has gone wrong, I'm disappointed and would like to know whether some compensation will be offered for the mistakes.

Supplied the wrong spec windows and…

The windows supplied were not the specification I ordered, and unfortunately they have continued to leak even after months. I've tried contacting the company several times but haven't had any useful response. At this point, I've had to take the matter further and it is now going to court. The online chat hasn't been able to resolve the problem either.

Poor installation due to rushed work

The installation felt rushed and unfortunately the work wasn't completed to the standard I expected. We were given appointments to have the problems fixed, but the appointments weren't kept and we weren't even notified. Trying to get any help afterwards has also been extremely difficult. The customer service has been very disappointing and it feels like once the payment has been made, the level of attention drops considerably.

Quality of product and the staff were…

The products themselves are good and the staff I dealt with were excellent. Unfortunately, there was a problem caused by the scaffolding team. They damaged the roof of my shed/garage while carrying out their work, and now that the weather has changed I'm getting dampness coming through onto the roof lining. I'm still waiting for the issue to be sorted out, so at the moment I'm disappointed that this hasn't been resolved.

Impeccable work and excellent customer service

The work was carried out by Jamie Poulton, Derek Poultom and Harry Gill, and I could not be happier with the result. The workmanship was impeccable, and all three provided excellent customer service. They were friendly, approachable and made me feel completely comfortable having them working in my home. I would happily recommend them to others and have already done so. The new windows and doors are perfect, and I am extremely pleased with the finished work. Thank you again to the team for everything they did.

DO NOT USE THEM- Disappointing experience with subcontractors and aftercare

We used First Home Improvements twice this year. The first installation involved windows and a door, and we were genuinely pleased with the quality of the work. A few months later, we were contacted about a £500 voucher and decided to have our fascias and gutters replaced. Again, the actual installation work was satisfactory. Unfortunately, our experience with the scaffolding company arranged by First Home Improvements was extremely poor. The scaffolders were rude and disrespectful, left cigarette butts and rubbish around the property, caused damage and one person even urinated in the street beside their van in full view of our neighbours. We found this behaviour completely unacceptable. We contacted First Home Improvements because we had not hired the scaffolding company ourselves. However, we felt the company did not take sufficient responsibility and instead passed our details to the scaffolding company so that we could deal with the matter directly. The scaffolding company said they would speak with the workers and get back to us, but we never received an update or apology. Since then, we have received two separate calls from First Home Improvements about a voucher that was supposedly available for further work. On both occasions, we explained that the voucher had already been used, and the caller then realised the information was shown elsewhere on their system. We also raised our complaint during these calls and were told someone would contact us, but nobody followed up. We were very happy after the first installation and would previously have recommended the company. Unfortunately, the way the scaffolding issue and subsequent complaint were handled has completely changed our view. The installation work itself was fine, but the experience with the subcontractor and the lack of follow-up have left us very disappointed.
